VIVAT TRADITIO!

Happy New Year 2025! A few words about Tradition.

Vivat Traditio!

Long live Tradition! These are the words with which we would like to greet the New Year's Eve. For all of us who care about the fate of the real astrology which we often call traditional - for the basic principles, philosophy and theology that underlie it and not for the sake of history and the past alone - it continues to be a great help, not only in its purposes, which are directly related to accurate predictions, but also in its possibilities, which consist, first of all, in helping all those who seek answers to the most varied questions of life. To bring the light of knowledge that can illuminate the uncertainties before our eyes is the duty of every astrologer. This is something we must never forget.

The purpose of astrology is not only to reveal the world cycles, the knowledge of which reveals to us the secrets of the world order, the destiny of mankind, states and nations, which is achievable only by a few among us, who more often keep silent than speak; but, first of all, to help ordinary people, who come for advice, in this or that life situation, with their aspirations, hopes, dreams and difficulties. All this not only shows us - astrologers - that there is nothing small or big in the world, because the destiny of a nation, for astrology, is inseparable from the destiny of an ordinary person, but also the universality of our predictive art, which with equal force can show both the destiny of this or that state, the outcome of a military conflict or something else, and the destiny of a person, in general, and the outcome of this or that life situation, in particular. If we work - even more if we live! - in line with Tradition.

Tradition is not just a word reflecting some customs of the past, some established cultural and historical foundations. It accommodates them, but in no way limits itself to them. Rather religions, philosophies, customs and traditions of this or that society, people and nation try to express the original Tradition, which is their origin.

Tradition is Life itself, its essence and form. Life as it is. Not exactly as scientists present it or as modern philosophers and religious figures think about it. The latter, to a greater or lesser extent, are able to approach it, but in no way to express it fully. Choosing a particularity, they build on it their building of sand, in the walls of which they try to bolt the Truth itself. But this is not Tradition - only a small facet of it, often distorted and humiliated by modern human thinking, which seeks to subordinate everything to its own ideas.

True Tradition is a reflection of Truth. Whether it is the Truth about the creation of the world and man, or the Truth of a particular branch of knowledge, including astrology. We, as astrologers, use this traditional knowledge, on which astrology is based, to predict the future. Philosophy and theology – to justify as well as understand Tradition. But doing so, we must never forget that while the purpose of astrology – accurate predictions - can be mastered with proper endeavour, thought and understanding, nevertheless, to approach an essential understanding of the Tradition itself is as difficult for us as it was for the philosophers of antiquity who seemed to have discovered the Truth per se, let alone the modern representatives of Calliope.

However, when we see how diminished the Tradition is in our day, how degraded our predictive art has been degraded beyond recognition by modern psychology, how it has been distorted by Theosophy - or rather by some Theosophists rather than by Theosophy itself - we cannot look at it with our eyes closed. Everyone who considers himself a follower of the Tradition, as well as of traditional astrology, must, to the best of his ability, raise the banner of the former above his head, to be a beacon to seekers, as the light that helps, and the fire that warms, in times of need. By deeds more than words. By actually showing not only the possibilities of our predictive art, but also what makes of astrology a truly Christian astrology, to use William Lilly's language. And this is not only the latter's relationship with God - the Divine which permeates all things - but also the manifestation in action of such important (perhaps the most important) words spoken by this great XVII century astrologer in his guideline to the student in astrology:

‘...As thou daily conversest with the heavens, so instruct and form thy minde according to the image of Divinity; learn all the ornaments of Vertue, be sufficiently instructed therein; be humane, curteous, familiar to all, easie of access, afflict not the Miserable with terror of a harsh Judgment...’

And this is also part of our Tradition, to know which without a moral beginning - kindness in the heart, without love and devotion - is as impossible as climbing Everest without equipment. The summit of this knowledge is reached by righteousness, which brings man closer to the Divine. Only then does our art become sacred one, revealing both the past and the future. As the same Lilly said:

‘...the more holy thou art; and more neer to God, the purer Judgment thou shalt give.’

And this, in fact, is one of the main secrets of accurate predictions, which is well within the reach of everyone's experience.

Tradition is not techniques and rules. It is something infinitely greater, in the being of which techniques and rules serve only as the most superficial, external form of expression. It is not some closed, artificially created system, within which we try to predict certain events. Tradition is a reflection of Life itself. For us, astrologers, in the symbols of the Cosmos. But this is only its external form, which is expressed in the language understood by those who study astrology. It is Tradition in astrology.

And so when we say long live Tradition! We mean long live the Truth! Because only in it we can see everything as it really is - both in life and in an astrological chart of a question, a birth chart of a person or a chart of the foundation of a state. It is the contact with the Truth that is given to us through contact with Tradition. And this is what we wish everyone in the New Year 2025!

Happy New Year! Vivat Traditio!
